The mortgage market may have speed up the job loss but this crisis has been brewing for a long time. The bottom line is that we don’t need as many people to do the same job as 50 or even 20 years ago. Add in the fact that we don’t make nearly as much stuff as we used to and the global economy is moving jobs away from the US it is a no no-brainer that unemployment is around (20%) not the fake number of around 10% that our government tells us. There is nothing you can do about it besides try to be one the lucky ones that has the skill set to compete in this workplace, or just be fucking hot and marry rich because that will always work. The global economy is great if you are poor but if you are one of the richer countries it sucks because your wealth will get sucked away. True on a overall sum it is better for everyone, but try telling that to someone who has no job.
